Bread
This study supports children's natural tendency to examine, taste, and explore bread of all kinds. Children investigate the characteristics of bread, make predictions, experiment with materials used to make bread, and even create their own recipes for bread.
Clothes
This study shows how to use children’s interest in and familiarity with clothes to help them explore social studies and science concepts related to different kinds of clothing and where and how clothing is made.
Gardening
This study brings the garden to your classroom! Whether it's a small container in an urban schoolyard or a large plot that can feed many, your class garden will engage children in hands-on, project-based investigations while introducing them to healthy, farm-fresh food.
Light
A study of light invites children to engage in hands-on investigations of familiar light sources, such as flashlights and light tables in the classroom as well outdoor explorations of shade and shadows caused by natural light sources.
Pets
This study uses children's love for and interest in pets to support social-emotional development around concepts such as showing affection, being sensitive to others' needs, and developing lasting friendships. Roads
This study offers opportunities for children to engage with people and ideas that develop in their natural curiosity about roads and transportation.
Signs
Children notice and use signs everywhere they go. As children investigate the characteristics of signs and observe how signs are used every day, they engage in meaningful literacy, mathematics, and art experiences while exploring social studies concepts.
Trees
This study builds on children’s interest in trees to help them develop an understanding of the characteristics of trees and gain an appreciation for their role in our natural and man-made worlds.
Water
In this study, children will discover the importance of water and its many uses at school and at home, investigate how water changes, and learn about how water helps people and the environment.
Boxes
This study features a wealth of rich opportunities for mathematics learning, including the exploration of comparison, measurement, and geometry concepts.
Buildings
This study of buildings helps expand children's understanding of different building materials and physical forces through exploration of concepts related to shelter, jobs, and the purposes of different structures.
Exercise
This study helps children develop an understanding of the mechanics of movement and how exercise and nutrition promote healthy bones and strong muscles.
Insects
Building on their fascination for insects, this study allows children to investigate the insects in the world around them and learn concepts of life science and social studies.
Music Making
This study, built upon children's natural interest in music, helps children understand how music is made, learn new ways to generate sound, perform music, and experiment with musical instruments.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Sand
Most children love to explore and play with sand. In this study, children investigate important concepts of Earth science and social studies, and even make their own sand.
Simple Machines
In this study, children explore the simple machines in their lives, such as scissors, levers, forks, and slides. The study also allows children to observe forces of nature, like friction and gravity, and to create their own simple machines.
Tubes & Tunnels
In this study, children build tunnels, use tubes, investigate the features that characterize a tube or tunnel, and experiment with how to use tubes and tunnels in new and interesting ways.
Wheels
In this study, children will discover the physical attributes of different types of wheels, investigate how wheels move, work together to create their own wheels, and learn about the many ways people use wheels.
